MINNEAPOLIS - The high school wrestling season is back in swing here in Minnesota, and with it comes new and improved changes to the state’s premier prep invitational as announced by the Gopher Wrestling Club on Friday.
Gopher Wrestling Club is happy to announce that MatBoss has signed to be the official title sponsor of the event starting in 2022, as the tournament will now formally be known as the MatBoss Minnesota Christmas Tournament.
MatBoss is a wrestling stats digital app created by coaches for coaches that integrates wrestling stats directly into the video you record for each match. Developed in 2013, MatBoss was born with the vision to provide an all-inclusive tool for wrestling to aid coaches in creative more successful wrestling teams, working with thousands of high school and college programs across the country.
Also new in 2022, the MatBoss Minnesota Christmas Tournament will be heading to a larger venue, as the tournament will now take place at the Mayo Civic Center in Rochester, Minnesota. The new venue will allow for the tournament to expand from eight mats to 11 mats of wrestling action.
Finally new for the 2022 season will be the tournament format, as each bracket will be wrestled in a 32-man consolation bracket format, which will wrestle out 24 places per weight class. The new format will guarantee that each wrestler has a minimum of four matches, including byes. Awards will be presented to the top six at each weight class on the final night of competition.
The MatBoss Minnesota Christmas Tournament is a fundraiser event hosted by the Gopher Wrestling Club, with proceeds directly supporting GWC athletes. Founded in 1977, the Gopher Wrestling Club (GWC) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that exists to promote and support the sport of wrestling and its athletes both in Minnesota and the United States by creating a world-class training environment for athletes to pursue their World and Olympic aspirations.
The 2022 MatBoss Minnesota Christmas Tournament will be held December 16-17, with full tournament coverage being broadcast live on FloWrestling.
