Hayden Zillmer Earns Silver at Zouhaier Sghaier Ranking Series Event

TUNIS, Tunisia - Hayden Zillmer wrapped up competition in Tunisia this morning, earning a silver medal at the Zouhaier Sghaier Ranking Series event as he prepares for the Senior World Championships later this summer.

Zillmer went 2-2 for the tournament, with both losses on the weekend coming to Geno Petriashvili (Georgia), the same opponent that Gable Steveson defeated the gold medal match of the Tokyo Olympics.

The tournament took place in a group format with the top two competitors in each group advancing to the final bracket. Zillmer began the tournament assigned to Group B along with Mohit Mohit (India) and Petriashvili.

Zillmer would split his group stage matches, rolling to a 7-0 victory over Mahit, before falling to Petriashvili by a score of 8-2.

His efforts were enough to advance to the final bracket where he would square off against Group A winner Alisher Yergali (Kazakhstan) in the semifinals and ultimately come out on top in a tight 6-5 contest.

The win would give Hayden another crack at the former Georgian world champ again in the finals, but it would be Petriashvili who would prevail once more, this time by a score of 8-4.

Looking forward, Zillmer will now look to build off his performance as he prepares for the world field when he heads to Belgrade in September.
